At Georgia-Pacific, we believe in supporting every community we call home. Monticello, Miss. is one of those places, where we’ve had a presence for 30 years. Working alongside our colleagues, friends and families, we’ve been able to lend a helping hand by impacting a variety of areas ranging from health and education to public safety and youth development.

Our most recent donation of $25,000 to the town of Monticello supported improvements to Mac Dale Memorial Park – a place where many local youth learn how to play baseball and softball. In fact, some employees recall childhood baseball games at this park, and now gather there to watch their children during the baseball season.

When speaking to Mayor David Nichols about the continued growth of the Monticello community, he said “Georgia-Pacific exemplifies what it means to be an extraordinary corporate citizen. Employees are always willing to contribute time and man-power to continue building Monticello. It is through the charitable giving of Georgia-Pacific that Monticello continues to provide a quality of life second to none for all residents in Lawrence County.”

The health and well-being of our community members is also important, which is why we have an ongoing relationship with the Lawrence County Hospital. To help facilitate screenings, we provided a $10,000 grant for the hospital’s Community Health Assessment News program, which will include heart, lung and stroke screenings for local residents.

We also donated an Emergency Transport Vehicle (ETV) to the Lawrence County Fire Department to assist rescue operations, firefighter rehabilitation and medical evaluation needs. Additionally, a $5,000 grant to the Lawrence County Public Library will help improve the library’s genealogy research center and help residents learn more about their ancestors.

Thriving communities require services, resources and programs that make a positive – and lasting – impact on everyone. We look forward to continuing to improve the quality of life in not only in Monticello, but every community where we operate nationwide.
