Forest Landowners Association Corporate Member Award

Georgia-Pacific was recognized for its support and enhancement of programs for private forest landowners.

Local Expansion Award

Muskogee, Okla., consumer products facility
The Muskogee mill received an award from the Muskogee City-County Port Authority, Indian Capital Technology Center and Greater Muskogee Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism for its investment in a new towel converting line to supply the company's enMotion® touch-free towel dispensers.

American Forest & Paper Association "Leadership in Sustainability" Water Award

Brunswick, Ga., cellulose facility
The Brunswick mill was recognized for its water use reduction project, which resulted in overall groundwater use reduction of nearly 10 million gallons per day – 30 percent of the mill’s total daily use. The project also resulted in a smaller energy footprint and lower air emissions from energy production.  The award is one of the association's Better Practices, Better Planet 2020 Sustainability Awards, which recognize exemplary sustainability programs and initiatives.

The Muskogee mill received a Muskogee City-County Port Authority Business & Industry Award for its outstanding support for the community.

Meritorious Service Award

Green Bay, Wis., consumer products operations
Georgia-Pacific's Green Bay operations were recognized by the Brown County (Wisconsin) United Way for their longstanding support and commitment to the United Way and the workplace campaign, which helps meet community needs.

Outstanding Environmental Compliance

Modesto, Calif., corrugated packaging facility

The City of Modesto's Environmental Compliance Section recognized Georgia-Pacific's Modesto plant for having no violations during the year and for significant improvement in reducing issues with its wastewater.  This is the third year in a row that the facility has received this recognition.

American Forest & Paper Association "Leaders in Sustainability" Energy Efficiency Award

Georgia-Pacific was recognized for its comprehensive energy management program to reduce energy intensity in its manufacturing operations. The award is one of the association's Better Practices, Better Planet 2020 Sustainability Awards, which recognize exemplary sustainability programs and initiatives.

"Business of the Year" Award

Muskogee, Okla., consumer products facility

The Muskogee mill was recognized as "Business of the Year" by the Indian Capital Technology Center, the Muskogee Port Authority and the Greater Muskogee Area Chamber of Commerce for its commitment to the community's economy and economic growth as well as for its employee volunteer efforts and support for community organizations.

Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Environmental Compliance

Modesto, Calif., corrugated container facility

The City of Modesto’s Environmental Compliance Section recognized Georgia-Pacific’s Modesto plant for having no environmental violations during the year and for voluntarily completing a water recycling project. The recycling project reuses process waste water, saving more than 100,000 gallons of water per year.

Composite Panel Association Safety Recognition Award

Monticello, Ga., medium density fiberboard facility

Georgia-Pacific’s Monticello plant was recognized for having the best safety record among small plants in 2012. It had no lost-time incidents, the best safety record over the last three years and achieved an incident rate less than 50 percent of the industry average over the last three years.

Georgia-Pacific’s Monticello mill was recognized for its decade-long partnership with the Workforce Education Division to maintain and improve employee training and development.

Fifteen Georgia-Pacific corrugated facilities were recognized by two industry associations for their safety performance. “Perfect Plant” awards for no recordable safety incidents went to plants at: Madera, Calif. (Color-Box®); Modesto, Calif.; Waxahachie, Texas; and West Chester, Ohio. “Safety Excellence” awards for no lost-time injuries went to plants at: Augusta, Ga.; Circleville, Ohio; Cleveland, Tenn.; Denton, Texas; Doraville, Ga.; Harrington, Del.; Huntsville, Ala.; Kansas City, Mo.; Martinsville, Va.; Pelahatchie, Miss.; and Richmond, Ind.

The HAVI Global Solutions Sustainability Award honored Georgia­Pacific Professional for finding value in the waste stream of McDonald’s – a HAVI customer -- and for supporting McDonald’s goal to reduce material sent to landfills.

National Safety Council "CEOs Who 'Get It'" Award

Georgia-Pacific's CEO was one of nine business leaders recognized with the "CEOs Who 'Get It'" award for their organizations' world-class safety programs by the National Safety Council. The council, a leading advocate for safety with chapters throughout the United States, commended the leaders for "creating a strong safety culture within their organizations."

Wisconsin Corporate Safety Award

Green Bay (Broadway), Wis., consumer products facility

The Wisconsin Safety Council and the Department of Workforce Development awarded the Wisconsin Corporate Safety Award to employees at Georgia-Pacific’s Green Bay (Broadway) facility. The award is based on safety and health leadership, training programs and implementation and employee participation. The Broadway mill was recognized in the “manufacturing/largest facility” category for the second year in a row.

The Gaston mill was recognized by the Pulp and Paper Safety Association for Best Record for Paper Mills 1 (less than 1 million hours worked annually) after completing the year with no recordable incidents.

USDA Two Chiefs' Partnership Award

Philomath, Ore., wood and fiber supply group

Georgia-Pacific’s wood and fiber supply group was recognized, along with other local, state and federal groups, for its participation in forest stewardship projects on the Siuslaw National Forest along the Oregon coast.  Presented by the leaders of the U.S. Forest Service and the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the "Two Chiefs' Partnership Award" recognizes outstanding efforts in conservation and forest stewardship.

W.W. Grainger "Green Supplier of the Year"

Georgia-Pacific Professional was named Green Supplier of the Year by its customer W.W. Grainger, Inc., a leading distributor of facilities maintenance supplies. The award recognized Georgia-Pacific Professional's efforts in sustainability. The business also received a Partners in Performance Award for supplier excellence.

A+ Summa Cum Laude Award - Best Partnership

Atlanta, Ga., headquarters

A+ Awards are presented by Atlanta Partners for Education, a joint initiative between the Atlanta Public School System and the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce that facilitates partnerships between local businesses and Atlanta Public Schools. The A+ Summa Cum Laude Award recognizes a longstanding partnership (five or more years) that has school-wide impact and has demonstrated commitment and sustainability.

The company’s headquarters employees have partnered with M. Agnes Jones Elementary School through the Atlanta Partners for Education program since 1997.

Best Marketing Innovation of the Decade Award

Georgia-Pacific’s enMotion® brand of touchless dispensers received recognition from the Georgia State University Robinson College of Business and the Atlanta Business Chronicle as the Best Marketing Innovation of the Decade. The enMotion dispensers help create a more hygienic environment and reduce usage by up to 30 percent compared with standard folded towels.

The Marietta employees were recognized with Top Honors for their safety record.

Humantech Find It Fix It Challenge Award

Wauna, Ore., consumer products facility

The Find It – Fix It Challenge™ recognizes simple and effective workplace solutions that result in increased productivity, improved worker morale and fewer workplace injuries and illnesses. Georgia-Pacific’s Wauna mill received the first-place award for improvements to its process for covering pulp bales, which minimized employee ergonomic risk while at the same time increasing quality and reducing costs.

Indian Capital Business And Industry Services Award

The Muskogee mill was recognized by Indian Capital Business and Industry Services for its safety achievements.

National Mining Association Sentinels of Safety Award

Blue Rapids, Kan., gypsum facility

GP employees at Blue Rapids received an "Achievement of Safety" certificate in the Sentinels of Safety program for being among the top five safety performers in the Large Underground Nonmetal Group category.

Ontex "Excellence in Sustainability 2010" Award

GP Cellulose

GP Cellulose was recognized by its customer Ontex, which makes hygienic disposable baby care, feminine care and adult care products, for its work in obtaining sustainable forestry certification.

OSHA Voluntary Protection Program "Stars Among Stars" Award

Muskogee, Okla., consumer products facility

The Muskogee mill received this award from U.S. OSHA Region VI as a site that achieved a total case incident rate and days away/restricted/transfer case rate well below the Bureau of Labor Statistics national average.

State of Utah Innovation in Reclamation Award

Sigurd, Utah, gypsum mining operations

Georgia-Pacific’s Sigurd gypsum mining operations were recognized by the state of Utah for the work they did to reclaim a previously mined area. Employees came up with an innovative way to meet the state’s reclamation requirements that was quicker and more cost effective.

W.W. Grainger "Green Supplier of the Year"

Georgia-Pacific Professional was named Green Supplier of the Year by its customer W.W. Grainger, Inc., a leading distributor of facilities maintenance supplies. The award recognized Georgia-Pacific Professional's efforts to build social, environmental and economic sustainability into its products and processes through its Green by Design® program. The business also received a Partners in Performance Award for operational excellence.

Dannon Corrugated Supplier of the Year Award

The Dannon Company named Georgia-Pacific’s packaging group its Corrugated Supplier of the Year in GP’s first year of working with the yogurt producer. The award is based on performance in four categories – safety, cost, innovation and quality. Dannon cited GP’s Packaging Systems Optimization (PSO®) work in innovative thinking and cost-saving opportunities as key to their selection.

Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division Recognition

Toledo, Ore., containerboard facility

The mill was recognized for achieving 1 million hours worked without a lost-time accident between February 2008 and April 2009.

Sustainable Forestry Initiative President's Award

Georgia-Pacific received the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®) 2009 President's Award for its efforts to increase understanding of SFI's fiber sourcing program and how it supports family forest owners across the United States.

Union Pacific Railroad Pinnacle Award

Georgia-Pacific Chemicals

GP’s Chemicals business earned Union Pacific Railroad’s Pinnacle Award for achieving a rate of zero nonaccident releases for shipments of regulated hazardous materials.

U.S. EPA SmartWay® Excellence Award

The U.S. EPA named Georgia-Pacific Consumer Products a SmartWay Excellence Award winner, recognizing the company for its leadership in promoting sustainable transportation practices through the SmartWay Transport Partnership.

U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration Sentinels of Safety Award

Blue Rapids, Kan., gypsum facility

GP employees at Blue Rapids received the Sentinels of Safety Award from the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) for working one full year with no recordable injuries.

Wyoming Governor's Safety Award

Lovell, Wyo., gypsum facility

The company’s Lovell operation was recognized in the large general industry category, one of 10 Wyoming businesses honored for outstanding safety and health programs.

APA - The Engineered Wood Association Safety and Health Awards

Georgia-Pacific Wood Products

Five Georgia-Pacific facilities were recognized by the APA for their safety performance. The Madison, Ga., plywood plant received the 3-Year Safety Award. The Warm Springs, Ga., plywood plant was recognized with the Safety Improvement Award. GP plants at Emporia, Va.; Grenada, Miss.; and Ocala, Fla., made APA’s Incident Free Honor Society for having no incidents in 2008.

International Sanitary Supply Association Product Innovation Award

Georgia-Pacific Professional

The International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA) presented its Product Innovation Award to GP’s SmartStock® Ultra Cutlery Dispenser and Carousel. The dispenser promotes hygiene and reduces waste with its “one at a time” cutlery dispensing, and the carousel provides operational efficiency by making it easier to restock. Judges for the award were distributors and facility service providers who are major buyers of GP’s away-from-home products.

Leo Bankston Ground Water Conservation Award

Port Hudson, La., consumer products facility
Georgia-Pacific’s Port Hudson, La., mill installed technology improvements at 20 water wells, generating information that helped the mill reduce total groundwater use. This annual award presented by the Capital Area Ground Water Conservation Commission recognizes and encourages good stewardship of water resources.

Southern Forest Products Association Safety Awards

The Southern Forest Products Association (SFPA) recognized Georgia-Pacific sawmills at Columbia, Miss.; Crossett, Ark.; Gurdon, Ark.; Monticello, Ga.; Sterling, Ga.; and Taylorsville, Miss., with awards for their outstanding safety performance.

U.S. EPA Safer Detergents Stewardship Initiative Champion

Georgia-Pacific Consumer Products

GP’s consumer products group was recognized by the U.S. EPA as a Champion in its Design for the Environment Program’s Safer Detergents Stewardship Initiative (SDSI). The program recognizes environmental leaders who voluntarily commit to the use of safer surfactants that break down quickly to non-polluting compounds and help protect aquatic life in both fresh and salt water. Champion is the highest level of recognition offered under SDSI.
