The Tallest
Tree
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, an ancient
California redwood tree towering more than 367 feet above the
forest floor is the tallest living thing in the world. It’s
as tall as a 30-story building!
The giant redwood, dubbed the Mendocino Tree and estimated to
be between 600 and 800 years old, is part of a grove called
the Montgomery Woods, a 1,300-acre preserve located in Northern
California’s redwood country. The Mendocino Tree stands
in a cluster of some two dozen trees, all of which are over
350 feet tall. |
