2001
Business Partnership Award
Palatka, Fla., consumer products facility
In 2001, the Florida Commissioner of Education recognized the mill for an educational
partnership with Jenkins Middle School in Palatka, Fla. Employees visit the school to
teach 300 sixth graders an environmental curriculum that includes classroom activities
applicable to social studies, math, science and language arts classes. Students then
visit the mill to apply the skills learned in the classroom, including measuring water
quality.
Governor's Award For Excellence in Recycling
Wheatfield, Ind., gypsum facility
Georgia-Pacific's Wheatfield, Ind., gypsum plant received the 2001 Governor's Award for
Excellence in Recycling in the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle category. In 2000, the Wheatfield
plant recycled over 400,000 tons of gypsum into its wallboard products from three
areas: synthetic gypsum, a byproduct of coal-fired power plant scrubbers, waste
wallboard from plant production and clean wallboard debris from construction sites.
2000
Governor's Award For Excellence in Hazardous Waste Reduction
Phillips, Wis., industrial wood products facility
The facility received this award for reducing in solvent waste generated primarily
from the panel finishing operation at the mill. A major reduction was achieved by
converting many of the coatings to a water-based solution and by installing a solvent
still to recycle used solvents.
Pollution Prevention Award
Palatka, Fla., consumer products facility
The Palatka, Fla., consumer products mill received an environmental award in the
pollution prevention category from the American Forest & Paper Association in 2000
for projects that have enhanced environmental quality in the local area.
Environmental Award
Mount Hope, W.Va., oriented strand board facility
Georgia-Pacific's Mount Hope, W.Va., oriented strand board facility was recognized by
the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection for programs that reduced water
usage. Through a variety of improvements, this facility now recycles 100 percent of the
process wastewater used at the facility. This project saves the facility approximately
20,000 gallons of water each day.
Energy Management and Innovation Award
Monticello, Miss., containerboard mill
The Monticello, Miss., containerboard mill earned an environmental award from the
American Forest & Paper Association in the energy management and innovation category
for programs that reduced electrical and natural gas usage at the mill.

2001
A+ Award
The A+ Award for tutoring was awarded to Georgia-Pacific in 2001 by the Atlanta
Partners for Education. The Atlanta Partners for Education is a joint program
between the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and the Atlanta Public Schools.
Georgia-Pacific's tutor program (Georgia-Pacific Buddy Program) has 230 employees who tutor
100 students from M. Agnes Jones Elementary School.
2000
A+ Award
In 2000, Georgia-Pacific was awarded the Summa Cum Laude A+ Award for its M. Agnes
Jones Elementary School partnership in Atlanta. The Summa Cum Laude level is the
highest recognition for business/education partnerships. Partnerships are considered
for this award on the basis of their schoolwide impact; significant and
regular volunteer involvement; human, financial and in-kind resources; and for
their demonstrated measurable results.
1999
Salute to Greatness Award
The Salute to Greatness Award was presented by the Martin Luther King Jr. Center in
1999 to Georgia-Pacific chairman emeritus and former CEO Pete Correll for his leadership
on key issues within the community, as well as his commitment to downtown Atlanta.

American Plywood Association Awards
The following Georgia-Pacific facilities were recognized at the American Plywood Association's
2002 Annual Safety Competition Awards: Grenada, Miss., oriented strand board; Warm
Springs, Ga., plywood; Madison, Ga., plywood; Taylorsville, Miss., plywood; Whiteville,
N.C., plywood; and Roxboro, N.C., engineered lumber.
Arbo Award
Cuijk, Netherlands, tissue mill
The Dutch Association of Paper Manufacturers presented the 2002 Arbo Award for
Health & Safety to the Cuijk, Netherlands, tissue mill for incorporating safe
workplace practices.
Gypsum Association Safety Awards
Georgia-Pacific facilities received five of the eight Gypsum Association Safety Awards
in 2002: Acme, Texas; Brunswick, Ga.; Las Vegas, Nev.; Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; and
Canal Flats, British Columbia, Canada. Our four joint compound plants (Milford, Va.;
Marietta, Ga.; Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and Longueuil, Quebec, Canada) won the Presidential
Award for joint compound plants by staying accident free in 2002.
Safety Excellence
Georgia-Pacific's
Gloster, Miss., plywood plant and Central Region wood and fiber supply organization,
in Crossett, Ark., were each recognized with a safety excellence award from the
American Forest & Paper Association.
Stars Among Stars
Port Hudson, La., and Crossett, Ark., paper facilities
In 2001, the distinguished "Stars Among Stars" designation from the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was awarded to company pulp & paper
facilities in Port Hudson, La., and Crossett, Ark.

Best Places for Blacks to Work
The October 2002 issue of Atlanta Tribune: The Magazine named Georgia-Pacific one of
"2002 Best Places for Blacks to Work." The information is based on survey results
conducted on large Atlanta companies' disclosure of ethnic employee data in 2001.
Commitment to Mentoring
Georgia 100® awarded Georgia-Pacific its Commitment to Mentoring Award in the
fall of 2002. The award recognizes the participation of Georgia-Pacific senior executives in the
Georgia 100 program. Georgia-Pacific consistently invests in the program with mentors and mentees
and has supported the program since 1995, when it became a launching sponsor. This
program is a program for executives in Georgia companies to mentor women in senior
managerial positions.
2001
Outstanding Service Award
INROADS, a non-profit leadership development and placement organization for minority
college students, awarded Georgia-Pacific its Outstanding Service Award in July 2001
for providing meaningful internships for minority college students.
100 Best Places to Work in IT
In 2001, Computerworld magazine recognized Georgia-Pacific as number two for diversity
and assigned the company an overall ranking of number 42 in the "100 Best Places to
Work in IT."
Corporate Supporter of the Year Award
The Corporate Supporter of the Year Award was presented to Georgia-Pacific by the
National Black MBA Association Atlanta Chapter in 2000. The award is granted to the
corporation that has provided the most support in helping the Atlanta chapter fulfill
its goals.
PROWESS Award
The YWCA's PROWESS Award (Programs for Women's Empowerment, Skills and Success)
recognizes a company in the greater Atlanta area that fosters the career development
and professional advancement of female employees. Georgia-Pacific Corporation was
awarded the PROWESS Award in 1999.
