Georgia-Pacific Social Responsbility Report

Never Stop Improving with Compliance Standards

Across Georgia-Pacific, employees are actively learning about new enhanced standards of compliance with a compliance assurance management system that focuses on "doing the right thing every time to create a competitive advantage in the marketplace." The new system of standards being rolled out is designed to prevent incidents while achieving 10,000% compliance with rules and regulations for the environment, health and safety, and ethical behavior.

Standards that are among Georgia-Pacific's top areas of focus include:

  • Antitrust
  • Safe Work Permits
  • Air Quality Management
  • Investigation, Reporting & Tracking
  • Records & Information Management
  • Government Interaction

"Consistent with our Georgia-Pacific "can-do" spirit, employees have done a great job, working hard to understand all aspects of our compliance program," said Tom Butz, senior vice president - compliance and ethics. "We have accomplished a lot in a short period of time, including the implementation of our Code of Conduct, as well as the rollout of dozens of compliance standards. We have a lot of work left to do, but we are extremely pleased with our progress."

The standards are in various phases of implementation across the company. Progress is being monitored in annual compliance plans, which have been developed within the respective business units and functional groups.
