Environmental Performance Measures and Metrics

Measuring our Performance

Georgia-Pacific tracks its environmental performance through the use of measures and metrics. Many of these conform to the performance indicators in the globally accepted Sustainability Reporting Guidelines developed by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

GRI is a joint initiative of the U.S. non-governmental organization Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies (CERES) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) with the goal of enhancing the quality, rigor and utility of sustainability reporting.

Many of our environmental measures follow the performance indicators listed in the GRI's Sustainability Reporting Guidelines. They are:

  • EN3: Direct energy consumption by primary energy source.
  • EN20: NOx, SOx, and other significant air emissions by type and weight.
  • EN21: Total water discharge by quality and destination.
  • EN28: Monetary value of significant fines and total number of non-monetary sanctions for non-compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
We round out our environmental reporting by tracking additional corporate metrics, which support our focus on continuous improvement.
