Environmental Role Models:
Toledo Containerboard and Savannah Gypsum
Georgia-Pacific has a tradition of recognizing facilities for their overall environmental
performance. In 2007, the Toledo, Ore., containerboard mill and the Savannah, Ga., gypsum
facility were winners of the annual Georgia-Pacific Environmental Excellence Award. The recognition is
based on overall environmental management programs, commitment to environmental stewardship
and continuous operational improvement.
The 2007 winners both developed innovative solutions that will provide long-term benefits for their operations and across the company:
- The Toledo facility created a community information campaign to inform plant neighbors and city officials about its operations, environmental programs and performance, and emission reduction efforts.
- The Savannah plant developed an enhanced data management system to collect and track operating information and data from the plant's environmental control systems.
