Dixie Facility Becomes OSHA VPP SiteIn 2007, the Leominster, Mass., facility became the first Dixie operation to join the OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP). The facility entered the VPP at the Star level, after OSHA's on-site review, interviews with employees and a complete tour of the worksite. The facility employs 245 people and manufactures a variety of products, including plastic cutlery and drinking straws. In 2007, Georgia-Pacific's corporate OSHA TCIR was 1.66, and our Lost Time Rate was 0.62. For that same time period, 66 Georgia-Pacific facilities had a TCIR of 0.5 or lower and were recognized with the Georgia-Pacific Safe Performer Awards
Leading with OSHA VPP
Currently, Georgia-Pacific has 76 sites in the Occupational Safety & Health Administration's (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Programs. The program recognizes facilities that are committed to effective employee protection beyond the requirements of OSHA standards, and encourages cooperative relationships among labor, management, unions and government.Georgia-Pacific also was the first company to be accepted into the VPP Corporate Pilot, which streamlines the application and on-site evaluation processes for organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to VPP. As of 2007, there were only six companies in the VPP Corporate Pilot.
There are 1,600 VPP worksites across 280 industries nationwide. Chemical, lumber and paper are the leading industry segments for VPP, and Georgia-Pacific is a lead participant in most of its industry segments.
