Continuous Improvement

GP is committed to continuous improvement through ongoing reviews of SFI audit results, management review of the SFI Annual Report, the BMP/Reforestation Monitoring System, and support for research throughout the forestry profession. GP supports these programs in order to monitor progress and find opportunities for improvement. It is the goal of GP's Wood & Fiber Supply management team, field foresters and regional environmental coordinators to provide opportunities where GP can improve its sustainable forestry practices.

A major part of continuous improvement is to consistently look for ways to do things more efficiently, benefiting both the environment and GP. For instance, Wood & Fiber Supply has designed portable steel bridges that can be used for temporary stream crossings on all harvesting operations. These bridges provide an efficient means to cross a stream, with less preparation and a tiny footprint left when done. In the end they are cost effective, far more efficient in everyday operations and most importantly, minimize environmental impact.
