Sustainability Throughout GP
GP's commitment to sustainability doesn't stop with Forestry. All of our businesses incorporate some aspect, whether it is using all of a tree or recycling. You can read about how we do that in our RE: brochure (PDF: 4.5mb/9pgs.).
For instance, GP goes full circle when it comes to paper recovery and recycling. Harmon Associates, a division of Georgia-Pacific, is one of the largest pure traders of recycled fiber in the world, trading in excess of 100 thousand tons per week. GP also recovers some 4 million tons of paper and paperboard for use in its facilities, and uses wood waste to fuel some of our building products and paper plants, thereby ensuring that no part of a tree is wasted.
The company's gypsum business also provides great examples of its commitment to the environment and sustainability like using a byproduct of coal-fired power plants to make wallboard. You can read more about it in G-P Gypsum Environmental Responsibility (PDF: 211kb/4pgs.) as well as our Corporate Social Responsibility Report.
Sustainability: It's a part of who we are, and it's a commitment we make to our employees, our communities, and the countries where we operate.
