Georgia-Pacific Social Responsibility Report

Social Responsibility Report

2007 Social Responsibility Report

Every day, Georgia-Pacific products make people's lives better. They are in our homes, our workplaces and our communities. Our pulp, paper, packaging and tissue products improve health and hygiene, and make our lives more convenient. Our building products provide dependable shelter and help people build their dreams

Creating Value; Ensuring Sustainability

In addition to creating value today by providing products that are valued by society, Georgia-Pacific supports the concept of sustainability—meeting today's needs without jeopardizing our ability to meet the needs of the future.

Sustainability is about doing more with less, leaving more resources available to meet other needs. It's also good business and that is why we work to incorporate sustainability into our business processes.

True sustainability must consider societal, environmental and economic performance. Georgia-Pacific's sustainability statement outlines our approach to this critical issue.

Leading the Transformation

Jim Hannah At Georgia-Pacific, corporate responsibility starts with each of us and what we do every day. Georgia-Pacific is transforming to build on our corporate and individual strengths, create long-term value, and enhance our ability to meet our responsibilities in the workplace, in communities and in the environment.

In the workplace, we're building on a tradition of leadership in health and safety, improving our performance and making it part of our operational expectations—guided by our comprehensive Environment, Health & Safety Policy.

We're supporting communities with initiatives that promote entrepreneurship, enrich communities, and meet critical needs related to education and the environment.

Operationally, we're focused on doing what's right for the environment—minimizing the adverse impact of our products and processes and addressing key issues like energy use, air and water quality, and waste reduction.

We are committed to 10,000% compliance with laws and regulations as well as with internal standards that set expectations for conducting our business with integrity, treating people with respect and valuing our customers. These are all critical areas of our Market Based Management® Guiding Principles (PDF 39KB) that drive everything we do at Georgia-Pacific.

Across all of Georgia-Pacific, transformation is at work—and that's good for our customers, our communities and our company. Jim Hannan
