Liquid latex is frequently used in moldmaking. In some instances, the liquid is poured over a model surrounded by a shell; in others, the thickened liquid is brushed onto a model and then surrounded by a constructed shell. Plaster should be sealed to prevent the latex from penetrating any pores. A release agent should be used to prevent sticking.
For best fluidity, liquid latex should be poured or brushed as soon as possible after proper mixing. It should be allowed to cure, undisturbed, as long as possible to prevent distortion. Avoid exposing molds to strong solvents, oils or cleaners. Molds should be stored in their original shape, undistorted, away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture. To avoid the formation of mildew, all casts should be dried and sealed with paint or clear lacquer.
