ELE Training Program


Engineering Training Overview
The majority of GP mills have four primary areas of operations that utilize engineers and five support areas that utilize engineering skills.

The four primary operation areas are:
    Pulping and Bleaching
    Papermaking
    Power and Recovery
    Converting
The six support areas are:
    Environmental, Health, and Safety
    Maintenance
    Reliability
    Process Engineering
    Process Control Engineering
    Project Engineering
The modules for developing knowledge and an understanding of GP's culture include the following:
Pulping and Bleaching
This course focuses on various wood and fiber characteristics, chip handling, batch and continuous pulping, brownstock washing and bleaching. Included in this session are overviews of Operations Excellence / Reliability Engineering and WinGEMS.

Papermaking
This course focuses on the chemical and mechanical processes involved in making paper from pulp. Topics covered include forming, pressing, drying, yankee dryers, yankee hoods, calenders, reels, TAD/eTAD, paper machine performance, PM process control, energy usage and optimization and dust mitigation.

Power and Recovery
This course gives an overview of specific components and operations in the power and recovery area including power and recovery boilers and steam turbines. The overview includes ideas and opportunities to improve operations as well as reduce operating costs. Included in this session are overviews of Operations Excellence / Reliability Engineering, Converting, Secondary Fiber and Process Control.

Career Development and MBM®
This course gives an overview of tools and resources employees have access to when ready to explore other opportunities across GP and Koch Companies. At GP we believe it is about the people vs. the position and encourage our employees to network across the organization with others to learn about various knowledge and skills valuable to the organization. Our culture encourages the employee to identify how they add value to the organization through identifying ones own comparative advantage. A separate course covering Market Based Management® the business philosophy under which we operate is also offered.
