GRANT APPLICATION FAQ's
What is the purpose of the Georgia-Pacific Foundation?
The mission of the Georgia-Pacific foundation is anchored in our company's core business philosophy. We believe that for a business to survive and prosper, it must develop and use its capabilities to create sustainable value for both its customers and society. Thus, the purpose of the Foundation is to help create and fund those programs and initiatives that add value to, and measurably improve, the quality of life within the communities where Georgia-Pacific operates and where employees live.
What kind of projects and programs does the Georgia-Pacific Foundation support?
The Foundation believes that it is not enough to simply support worthy causes. We are firmly committed to using our resources in ways that strengthen the communities where we live and work.
We believe that self-reliance and economic fortitude are indispensable components of vibrant communities. Therefore, the Foundation invests our resources primarily in four key areas (the Four Es) that help create and sustain strong communities: Education, Environment, Entrepreneurship and community Enrichment.
How do I know if our program or project could qualify for assistance?
The Georgia-Pacific Foundation has always sought and continues to seek out those innovative initiatives that help us impact our key investment areas of Education, the Environment, Entrepreneurship and community Enrichment. We have had great success in developing partnerships to fund and support programs and projects in these areas. These partnerships help improve the quality of life in the communities where our employees live and work, and reflect how long-term partnerships create real, sustainable value that is vital to the success of both business and society. To find out whether your program qualifies for consideration for a Georgia-Pacific Foundation grant, sponsorship, in-kind donation or other assistance, please complete the Eligibility Survey.
Is there a specific range for dollar amounts awarded for grants, scholarships or in-kind donations?
There is no specific dollar amount for a request for grants, scholarships or in-kind support. The dollar amount varies based on the budget requested, program value and GP funds available.
Once I submit a proposal for a grant, how long will it take before I receive a response from the Georgia-Pacific Foundation?
The Georgia-Pacific Foundation will respond with written notification within 60 days of receipt of a request.
What is the timeline for grant submission?
For 2009 funding, the GP Foundation will accept proposals for grants and in-kind donations from Jan 1, 2009 through Oct 31, 2009. It is recommended that you submit your proposal early in the grant cycle. (only one copy of the proposal is required)
What are the most important factors the GP Foundation uses in its decision making process?
The GP Foundation looks at three critical factors:
- Is the organization's initiative or program going to positively impact a community surrounding one of our GP facilities around the country?
- Does the organization meet the eligibility requirements?
- Does the organization's initiative or program align with one of the Four Es: Education, Environment, Entrepreneurship or Enrichment of Community?
- Does the organization's initiative or program create value and provide real return on investment in the community?
Thank you again for your interest in the Georgia-Pacific Foundation. Please keep in mind that:
- Applicants for any of the above community initiative grants, scholarships or in-kind request are asked to follow the specific guidelines and criteria required by the Foundation.
- All requests, whether request for grants, sponsorships or in-kind donations will be processed under the same guidelines and criteria.
- The Georgia-Pacific Foundation will carefully evaluate each request according to our criteria and requirements.
