A Strong Environmental Focus
Georgia-Pacific's Packaging Division received a national award in 1998 for environmental management from a panel of independent experts commissioned by the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA). The division received top honors for water management and pollution control in the annual Environmental and Energy Achievement Awards. The award-winning water quality education program raises awareness about local water quality and encourages actions that reduce water usage and prevent pollution. The awareness effort led to water usage reductions up to 90 percent at individual plants and decreased the likelihood of pollutants being released into local wastewater systems. |
