Site: Located approximately 60 miles south of Jacksonville, Florida.

Purchases, Local Goods and Services: Approximately $13 million in Putnam County Annually; $3 to $4 million in taxes and charitable organizations.

Paper Machine

Product: The mill operates two kraft paper machines and three tissue paper machines, and produces about 527,000 tons of paper products annually, including bath tissue, paper towels and napkins sold under the Georgia-Pacific brand names of Angel Soft, Quilted Northern, Sparkle and Brawny.

Product End-Uses: Kraft Papers - butcher paper, flour bags, sugar bags, and roofing shingle packaging. Tissue Paper - bath tissue, paper towels, and napkins.

Product Markets: A majority of the tissue products (225,000 tons-per-year) are sold in the domestic market to large chains such as: Wal-mart, Kmart, and Publix. Kraft paper (bleached/unbleached) is also sold domestically except for a small amount sold to Asian markets.

Pulp Tonnage: Approximately 540,000 tons per year.

Wood Usage: Approximately 1,482,000 tons of pine per year and more than 382,000 ton of hardwood each year. The wood harvested in Putnam County for the mill is valued at $23 million.

Energy: The mill self-generates approximately 58 megawatts of power. The mill is 75% energy self-sufficient. Total energy spend (oil, natural gas and electrical) $45 million.

History: Hudson Pulp and Paper founded the mill in November 1947 with a workforce of 279 and only one kraft machine.

Hudson Pulp and Paper was acquired by Georgia-Pacific in 1979.

Today, the mill has two kraft machines (second machine started up in 1951), three tissue machines (first installed in 60's & upgraded in the 80's) and complete tissue converting operation.
