The Youth Entrepreneurs™ of Atlanta (YE-Atl) course is a privately funded business elective taught in high schools. Although the program is targeted for at-risk youth in their sophomore or junior year, all high school students can apply if the program is offered at their school. Students receive credit for the class just as they would for any other elective, but it is the "learning by doing," extra curricular activities and financial opportunities that set this program apart.

The Course
YE-Atl students gain hands-on experience with wholesale buying and retail selling to reinforce business principles taught in class. Each YE-Atl class takes a field trip to local businesses and then to a wholesale club, where each student receives a $25 loan from YE-Atl to buy products at wholesale cost. Students take their goods back to school and sell them at retail prices during "Market Day." After they pay the loans back to YE-Atl, any profit they make is theirs to keep! Students and teachers use this opportunity to put into practice business principles such as market research, advertising, cost of goods sold and return on investment, to name a few.
