There is a special beauty and cadence that surrounds a public park. It is the place where people can relax and enjoy nature, children play and dogs run about. Georgia-Pacific’s Wauna Mill recently gave a piece of this natural beauty to the residents of Clatsop County, in Westport, Oregon.
The mill donated 27 acres of waterfront property, worth more than $230,000, which will be developed into a park for the community to enjoy. With additional funding, the county has plans for a new boat launch area, trails and public restrooms. The land will also be used for environmental projects. For example, local restoration biologists have plans to research ways to increase Coho Salmon in the Plympton Creek.
Georgia-Pacific has called Westport a neighbor for 50 years and is proud to contribute locally to something that will benefit generations for the next 50 years.
