“Explore the outdoors the parks are yours” – that’s the motto of Buddy Bison, the National Park Trust’s wooly mascot. May 16 is National Kids to Park Day and it's the perfect time to go to a local park and enjoy the outdoors.
NPT’s mission is to preserve parks and they also help provide experiences for under served youth with the outdoors through their nationally recognized Buddy Bison School Program.
Georgia-Pacific recently teamed up with National Park Trust (NPT) to give third-graders at our partner school in Atlanta, M. Agnes Jones Elementary, an opportunity to have fun and get hands-on learning.
Approximately 100 students hiked through Sweetwater Creek State Park and learned about geology as they observed faulted and folded rock created by plate tectonic events. They also learned about adaptions of animals and how they interact with the environment.
As long-time supporters of education, we know that hands-on learning experiences are the key to making concepts come to life for students. Not only do children benefit from the health and wellness of playing outdoors, but the more we can give experiences like these to children, the better stewards we’ll have for the environment down the road.
Georgia-Pacific is proud to support NPT the students of M. Agnes Jones Elementary – watch this video to see their day of exploring and fun. And see you at the parks!
