The mill earns a Wildlife at Work designation from the Wildlife Habitat Council for its 150-acre, on-site wildlife habitat.

Georgia-Pacific acquires the Savannah River Mill.

The Savannah River Mill begins producing premium products, including Angel Soft® bath tissue.

1998

SRM constructs its fifth paper machine, which distinguishes it as the largest tissue mill in North America. Five of the world’s 12 largest tissue paper machines now reside at SRM.

The Yankee for SRM’s first paper machine arrives via the Savannah River. The mill begins production of its first tissue, towel and napkin products on October 8, 1986.

1985

Fort Howard Paper Company begins clearing land for the construction of the Savannah River Mill. The mill is designed to produce tissue, towel and napkin products primarily from recycled wastepaper.
